<narrative>Research Collaboration Workshops</narrative> A series of workshops bringing together past and current Newton Fund award holders of ODA-eligible projects to develop further ODA-eligible interdisciplinary and cross-border research collaborations drawing on their Newton Fund awards We will be delivering of a number of research collaboration workshops and networking/dissemination events in Brazil and South Africa. These events are expected to generate significant impact by solidifying links with partner organisations overseas, by further building the knowledge and skills of the award holders and by facilitating ideas and connections that are likely to extend beyond the Newton Fund’s lifespan.

The primary aims of the Newton International Fellowship programme are to:• Support the development of a well-trained research community who can contribute to advancing economic development and social welfare of the partner country by transferring new skills and creating new knowledge.• Strengthen research excellence in partner countries by supporting promising independent, early to mid-career researchers and their research groups and networks to develop their research through training, collaboration, reciprocal visits and the transfer of knowledge and skills from the UK.• Establish long-term links between the best research groups and networks in partner countries and the UK to ensure that improvements in research capacity are sustainable in the longer term.

These partner countries value the focus on the development of the skills and capabilities of researchers, the importance of creating centres of research excellence and building a strong research base across all disciplines, as well as the contributions of curiosity driven research to international development. <narrative>Jordan-UK El Hassan bin Talal Research Chair in Sustainability</narrative> The Jordan – UK El Hassan bin Talal Research Chair in Sustainability is a joint initiative between the British Academy and the Royal Scientific Society of Jordan (RSS). Its aim is to enhance the research and innovation capacity of Jordan for long-term sustainable development. The initiative is supported by the Newton-Khalidi Fund. This call is open to applicants with established expertise in any area relevant to the challenges of sustainability, particularly in the context of Jordan. Such areas could relate to, but need not necessarily be limited to: food security, water, energy and the environment, cities and infrastructure, climate change, sustainable livelihoods, health and well-being, migration and displacement, inequalities, and education. <narrative>Newton Mobility Grants (Year 5 - Round 1)</narrative> This programme supports researchers in Newton Fund countries to develop collaborations with UK researchers. These awards are particularly suited to initiate new collaborative partnerships and facilitate knowledge sharing, aiding the internationalisation of researchers and institutions. The primary aims of the Newton Advanced Fellowship programme are to: • Support the development of a well-trained research community who can contribute to advancing economic development and social welfare of the partner country by transferring new skills and creating new knowledge. • Strengthen research excellence in partner countries by supporting promising independent, early to mid-career researchers and their research groups and networks to develop their research through training, collaboration, reciprocal visits and the transfer of knowledge and skills from the UK. • Establish long-term links between the best research groups and networks in partner countries and the UK to ensure that improvements in research capacity are sustainable in the longer term.
